What is Botulinum toxin? |
| Botulinum toxin is a naturally occurring protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. |
How does it work? |
Your forehead lines, frown lines and crow’s feet are called dynamic wrinkles. These wrinkles developed because of muscle movements. Botulinum toxin relaxes the muscles that are responsible for these movements and therefore softens the wrinkles. |
What areas are most suitable? |
Botox treatment is used to reduce the appearance of crow's feet around the eyes, and frown lines and wrinkles on the forehead and between the eyebrows. |
When will I see its results & how long does it last? |
Within days, you may see a marked improvement in the moderate to severe frown lines between your brows. Lines continue to improve for up to a month, and results can last for up to 4 months, depending on patients. You will notice a gradual fading of its effects. At this point you will return to your doctor for your next treatment.
It is usually necessary to have a treatment every 3 - 4 months to maintain and improve upon the original results. Acceptable safety in long-term treatment has been well established. |
What are the side effects? |
The most common side effects following injection are redness, swelling and some minor bruising. Other complications such as temporary eyelid droop and double vision are very rare when performed by someone experienced. |
How long does the treatment take? |
| The whole treatment should usually take no longer than 15 minutes. You do not usually require any anaesthetic or sedation. |
Is it painful? |
| Not usually as a very tiny needle is used for the procedure. Some patients report minor and temporary discomfort from the injection. |

Sometimes, a dental or lip block may be used, where a small amount of anaesthetic is injected into the lip area to help to numb them prior to treatment. |
Is the treatment painful? |
Depending on the area injected, patients may find the procedure relatively painless to mildly uncomfortable. Treatments around the nose or lip areas are usually more painful. |
What is the recovery time? |
Recovery time can be from a few hours to a few days. However, most people find that they can return straight back to work after treatment with dermal fillers. |

What areas are most suitable? |
- Sculptra can help to correct:
- Deep folds between the nose and the mouth (nasolabial folds)
- Folds around the corners of the mouth (marionette lines)
- Sunken cheeks
- Wrinkles and lines in the cheeks or chin
- Deep scars
|
When will I see its results & how long does it last? |
|
The effect of Sculptra treatment is gradual and exceptionally natural looking. Two or three treatments are usually required, and the benefits become noticeable after about six weeks.
Clinical studies have shown that the results of Sculptra can last up to 3 years. |
Are there any side effects? |
The most common side effects are redness, bruising and swelling at the injection site. These side effects generally disappear in a few days. One possible delayed side effect with Sculptra can be small bumps under the skin in the treated area within 6 to 12 months of the first treatment. These may not be visible, and you may only notice them when you press in the treated skin. The bumps sometimes disappear of their own accord. Visible bumps, sometimes associated with redness or colour change to the treated area, have also been reported. As with all procedures that involve an injection through the skin, there is risk of infection. |
How long does the treatment take? |
Depending on the area treated, treatment times can vary from around 30 minutes to an hour. A numbing cream is offered to make the treatment more comfortable, and it may require up to 30 minutes for it to take effect.
Sometimes, a dental or lip block may be used, where a small amount of anaesthetic is injected into the lip area to help to numb them prior to treatment. |
Does the treatment hurt? |
Not usually a problem as numbing cream and local anaesthetic injection is given prior to the injection. However, as with all injections, some discomfort is inevitable, and you may feel a brief burning sensation at the injection site. An ice pack applied after the treatment can help to relieve this. |
What happens after the treatment? |
| You will need to massage the treated areas of your face for at least 2 weeks. |
Are the results from Sculptra treatment immediate? |
Sculptra takes time to work, with the results becoming noticeable after about six weeks. It may appear to have an effect immediately after your first treatment visit, but this is because of swelling from the injections and the water used to dilute Sculptra. When the swelling goes down after a few days and the water is absorbed by your body, you may look as you did before treatment.
Three or four treatment sessions are usually necessary to obtain the desired result. However, unlike dermal fillers, the result of Sculptra can last up to three years. |
